“It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry’s Mum. We will all miss our buddy Sheila.

We hope to open a section of this website dedicated to the bands who played support/relief to The Miami down through the years. If you and your band ever did, why not rustle up a photo of the band and send it to us (see Contact page) along with the line-up of the band and the name of the venue/s where you played. Some support bands went on to greater things – don’t forget that The Beatles played support to The Royal Showband at the Liverpool Empire! Feel free to write a paragraph or two if you have any anecdotes to tell.

Sunset was one of Cork’s most popular bands during the late sixties and seventies. As well as being one of the busiest groups on the local circuit they were also the resident support band at The Stardust Club on The Grand Parade. Sunset was held in high regard by all the leading bands that visited that famous venue. Now the great news is that on November 14th, Sunset will reform as the special guests of The Miami Showband when The Cork Opera House will be transformed into The Stardust Club for one night only.

Below is a recent picture of (from left) Sunset drummer Paddy McCarthy (now resident in New York), Stephen Travers and Sunset vocalist Terry McCarthy.

Fans often brought their cameras along to the gigs and had photos taken with band-members afterwards. If you have a photo of you and/or your friends with any band-members (from 1961 – 2008), do please send them on and when we have enough to open an album page, we will. Tell us who’s who in the photo and if you can remember the venue and the year.
